Two events in February 2018 looked at ways of bending the curve on demand and prices in adults social care and children's services.
Given the year on year increase in demand and prices it is not surprising that 80% of councils are not confident about their financial sustainability. The adoption of the principles and measures shared through the day will help - but some means needs to be found to secure more funding for the sector.
Hence the encouragement for all of us to engage in the work on the Green Paper on Social Care Funding and also to respond to the Competition and Markets Authority's report on care homes - given the recommendation that Local Authorities pay a £1bn more to providers. Who would pay at least 12% to 15% for a mortgage which is the implication of what the CMA is recommending?!
