Mauritius made significant strides in strengthening governance and transparency with the successful completion of CIPFA’s Corruption Prevention Programme (CPP). The programme culminated in a prestigious awards ceremony in late January attended by colleagues from the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) and partners from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), underscoring the programme’s global significance.
Bringing together participants from over 25 government entities, the CPP provided practical tools to identify corruption risks and implement integrity plans at a national level.
A transformative learning experience
Launched in July 2024, the programme centred around the International Certificate in Corruption Risk Management (ICCRM). Participants kicked off their journey with five days of expert-led immersive training at the FCC headquarters, delving into key e-learning themes to build a strong foundation in corruption risk management.
Following this, the programme progressed with a rigorous examination and interactive virtual workshops, guiding participants in conducting in-depth corruption risk assessments within their respective institutions. This hands-on approach ensures theory is translated into practical skills to equip participants with the tools to effectively identify and mitigate corruption risks in real-world scenarios.
Voices from the Corruption Prevention Programme
The impact of the programme is best reflected in the feedback from participants:
“Assessing any type of risk has become easier. I am presently supporting the Ministry to implement the Risk Management Framework, and this training has provided me with the tool to make things easier”
“I have been able to critically assess corruption risks in my organisation through various examples given during the training.”
“I would recommend the corruption risk management training to others. Such training equips individuals and organisations with the necessary tools to identify, assess, and mitigate corruption risks effectively.”
Next steps
The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) is proud of the dedication and commitment demonstrated by participants. We look forward to the continued positive impact of this initiative across Mauritius's public sector. By fostering a culture of integrity and accountability, the CPP has set a new standard for corruption prevention efforts in the region.
