Our recent briefing the health of health finances [PDF], published in August, gained considerable media attention – for example, there were over 300 comments from the public on the Guardian’s website coverage.
A key thrust of CIPFA’s analysis was that the government faces a choice between increasing health budgets beyond current plans, introducing additional charges or accepting a reduction in service quality - one to do, to carry on claiming that it is feasible to avoid choosing any of those three.
The debate remains key as we head into the Comprehensive Spending Review, and CIPFA will be updating its analysis depending on what that says. It will also be good to have the opportunity to present the paper to the Department of Health at their upcoming Policy day.
