In response to the Public Accounts Committee's (PAC) recent report, CIPFA Local Government Policy Manager, Joanne Pitt said: "We welcome the committee’s report and the recognition that current funding levels for local government are unsustainable, to the detriment of public services.
"CIPFA shares a number of the committee's concerns, including those around risky borrowing practices, a lack of coordination from central government around funding of the net zero agenda and the ongoing issue of audit timeliness.
"The government must now focus on delivering a clear and long-term funding strategy to ensure local authorities, and the public services they provide, are put back on a firm footing."
