CIPFA, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, is pleased to announce that Pete Moore, Executive Director of Finance and Public Protection, Lincolnshire County Council, has been appointed as Chair of CIPFA’s Pensions Panel.
Pete brings more than 38 years in local government finance at county, metropolitan and district council levels, including 30 years at Lincolnshire County Council. He has been a CIPFA member since 1986, and the Section 151 Officer for Lincolnshire since 2000.
His expertise is well recognised, with his current responsibilities including management and governance of the £2.3bn Lincolnshire Pension Fund, as well as his more recent involvement in the establishment of local pension boards for the LGPS and Fire Service in Lincolnshire.
The Pensions Panel focuses on accounting and auditing, reporting and disclosure, pension scheme management, governance, and changes to the regulatory environment where these issues relate to pensions.
Speaking on the appointment, Rob Whiteman, CIPFA CEO, said: “Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS) are facing significant challenges, as well as opportunities. To capture the efficiencies now on offer as a result of pooling 89 funds requires effective governance.
“Following the the government’s vision, we currently have around £270bn spread across just eight schemes between England and Wales. This makes the advice and guidance provided by CIPFA’s Pensions Panel essential to the future prosperity of millions of people in the UK.
“Through effective leadership we help ensure individuals can enjoy the fruits of a lifetime of work. Pete’s experience, along with his knowledge, commitment to the public sector, and his expertise in pensions, all make him an excellent person to be Chair of the panel at this time.”
