29-11-2022

Public finance teams were recognised in a wide range of categories at the 2022 Public Finance Awards last night. Finance teams from the NHS were particularly successful, winning five out of a possible 14 awards. The winners and runners-up represented all areas of the UK public sector, with winning teams from police forces, NHS trusts and local councils.

This year, a new Promoting Diversity and Inclusion category was introduced. The category was won by Financial Management’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team, Manchester City Council. The team were commended for establishing a working group to understand the challenges and barriers to inclusion in their service.

The most prestigious award, the Grand Prix, was won by Paul McKevitt who has a joint finance leadership role across health and local government in Wigan. He was praised for his focus on prevention and early intervention.

CIPFA CEO Rob Whiteman said:

“Every year, the Public Finance awards are a reminder that the public sector is brimming with passionate, hardworking and dedicated professionals, which often goes unrecognised by the general public.

“In the current landscape and over the past couple of years, the public sector has coped with a plethora of immense challenges. It’s a pleasure to celebrate the innovative and creative work that finance and governance teams across the public services are carrying out.”
