These important changes to CIPFA’s continuing professional development (CPD) requirements are effective as of 1 January.
Key changes
We are transitioning from an input-based to an output-based approach to CPD, focusing on the achievement of learning outcomes. To maintain professional standards, we are implementing the following minimum requirements:
- A minimum of 20 hours of learning within a 12-month period.
- Mandatory completion of one hour of ethics-related verifiable CPD within this total.
What does this mean for you?
Under this new approach, in addition to fulfilling the above, you will need to:
- demonstrate how your CPD activities have contributed to your professional development
- show clear learning outcomes and application to your role
- maintain records of both the time spent on and impact of your learning.
Key benefits
This change represents a flexible approach to professional development, allowing you to:
- focus on meaningful learning outcomes
- better align CPD activities with your career goals
- demonstrate the practical application of your learning
- maintain professional standards while offering flexibility in how these are fulfilled.
