In response to the release of the ‘State of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce England’ report, William Burns, Social Care Policy Advisor, said:
“While this report brings some good news, in that the number of vacant posts in the adult social care sector has gone down in the last 12 months, the number of vacancies is still the second highest on record.
“There is still work to be done to improve workforce recruitment and retention, which is vital if social care services are to recover, and to build capacity for reform in the sector.
“In CIPFA’s upcoming insight report into adult social care charging reform in England, we make recommendations for a sustainable and equitable social care system.
“We must be bold in creating the kind of system the country needs. A key part of a reformed system will be making sure social care staff are better paid with improved terms and conditions.”
