Salary: £47,186 to £51,573 (Gateway up to £56,588 for exceptional candidate)

This is an exciting time to join our finance team at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Under new leadership, we are looking to build a world-class finance team to support all our services navigate the challenging financial environment in which local authorities operate. With the lowest Council Tax of any unitary authority outside of London we have a record of delivering efficiently. However, we cannot stand still and strengthening the finance team so that is fit to meet future demands is a priority.

Assisting the Head of Financial Operations, you’ll help us manage our cash effectively, minimising risk while reducing borrowing and delivering the debt management strategy. It’s a key role, where you’ll deal with large amounts of data in a methodical and deadline-focused way, drawing on your understanding of strong financial controls.

Day to day, you’ll take responsibility for the bank reconciliation and associated tasks (e.g. petty cash floats, purchase cards) and for coordinating a team of three. Together, you’ll focus relentlessly on maintaining efficient processes and procedures, and implement improvements where necessary. This gives you the chance to build your leadership skills – but it won’t be your only opportunity. By deputising for the Head of Financial Operations, you’ll get the chance to manage colleagues while ensuring a strong financial control environment.

To join us, you must be a CCAB Fully Qualified Professional Accountant (CIPFA, ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA) who’s well versed in Government finance. With this background you’ll be capable of giving advice on VAT and assisting with budget setting and medium-term financial planning. We’ll also be looking for good communication skills, advanced IT user skills plus an organised approach. With this expertise you’ll have what it takes to inspire and lead a team.
