About this event

At CIPFA Northern Ireland’s Finance Policy Forum in 2024, finance professionals highlighted the need for public bodies to be able to plan for and secure alternative sources capital finance.  This need reflects increasing demand for public services and support, within increasingly constrained budgets.

The funding landscape continues to rapidly evolve.  Are government departments and their delivery partners in Arms-Length Bodies (ALBs) fully capitalising on available opportunities to secure Northern Ireland’s share of available funding?

Whether it is through innovative programmes such as the City Deal; local council borrowing; Peace Plus funding; or Financial Transactions Capital funding - are Northern Ireland’s public services maximizing opportunities to attract finance to help build houses, roads, schools etc. to improve the lives of citizens?

Hot on the heels of the April 2025 inquiry by the Public Accounts Committee highlighting the lack of leadership and governance of capital projects, CIPFA is running a CPD workshop that critically evaluates sources of capital for Northern Ireland’s public services. Keynote speakers at the event will include Graeme Wilkinson, Director of Skills Strategy and Policy and Ciaran McGarrity, Director of Economic Infrastructure, both from the Department for the Economy.
