About this event

In this introductory course, we will start from the very beginning, by defining what is meant by adult social care, and children’s services. We will cover the legislative framework underpinning these services, including the Care Act 2014, ensuring that delegates understand local authorities’ legal duties. We will also cover charging, managing current and future pressures, funding, assurance, integration, data, and reform. There will be space for questions, answers, and discussion, as well as networking with fellow attendees.

Speaker - Dr William Burns, Social Care Policy Advisor

William is CIPFA’s social care policy advisor. His work focuses on social care reform, and he has produced thought leadership in the areas of adult social care charging reform, children’s social care reform, Scotland’s National Care Service, social care funding, and Special educational needs and disabilities. He runs CIPFA’s Social Care Network, and hosts regular events on topics such as introductions to adult and children’s social care, care markets, finance business partnering, data and technology, and assurance. He previously worked for the Scottish Government, leading work costing policies stemming from the Independent Review of Adult Social Care, and at the University of Glasgow as a doctoral researcher.
