About this event

The Finance Skills: Budget Management and Control e-learning explores planning, preparing, monitoring and controlling budgets, as well as pricing and variance analysis. You will also be guided on how to ensure that your financial management is robust.

Learning outcomes

On completing the e-learning, you will understand the:

  • characteristics of good financial management and the role of the manager in planning, monitoring and controlling budgets,
  • procedures to plan, monitor and control budgets,
  • principles of costing a service.

Who is it aimed at?

The e-learning is designed primarily for those who have no formal qualifications in finance or accountancy but who, as part of their job roles, need to understand financial management activities and financial decision-making.

It is ideal for those who manage a budget or cost centre as part of a non-finance role in the public sector.

How is it delivered?

The e-learning is delivered online via CIPFA's online learning environment. Detailed joining instructions will be sent to you.

How long will it take to complete?

The e-learning will take around four hours to complete. If you are studying online, you will have access to all of the learning materials for three months.

Assessment

There is no assessment for this e-learning if you are completing it on its own and not as part of the full Diploma in Finance Skills for Public Sector Managers.

This e-learning carries four CPD hours

All CIPFA training counts towards your continuing professional development (CPD). If you are a CIPFA Chartered Member, you are required to undertake a minimum of 20 hours of relevant CPD activity each year as part of maintaining your professional competence and to develop skills and knowledge.
