This article discusses the value of CIPFA's Good Governance Framework in helping authorities achieve sustainable outcomes.
Achieving sustainability, whether financially, socially or environmentally is one of the most difficult challenges for a local authority. It requires consideration of longer-term needs and impacts as well as short-term requirements or constraints. The governance framework encourages this longer-term thinking and authorities should evaluate how well they do this when undertaking their annual reviews of governance.
