Earlier this year, the publication of the Department for Transport’s (DfT) report The Pathway to Driverless Cars: Summary Report and Action Plan signalled the green light for driverless vehicles to be legally tested on UK public roads. The government has followed this up by offering £20m in research grants to whoever proposes the most innovative approach to developing the technology, which could be worth nearly £1trn by 2025.
