The Policing and Crime Bill proposes major changes for police and fire services that may have significant governance implications. There have also been a number of other recent developments in governance, not least the 2016 update to the CIPFA/SOLACE Delivering Good Governance in Local Government: Framework.
The CIPFA Better Governance Forum and CIPFA Police Network held two development days for police audit committee members in September 2016 to consider the latest issues. The events focused on the latest in governance and strategic policing issues. We also shared the findings of our recent survey of police audit committees.
One of the key elements of police audit committee work relates to risk management. At both events, Jo Collins, Risk Management Lead for the Metropolitan Police Service, considered some of the emerging issues in this area and the Metropolitan Police Service's approach to managing the key risks. In York, Jo was joined by David Esling, Risk Management Lead for the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime.
