The CIPFA Police Network held its annual Developments in Police Finance workshops on 4 and 6 October. The events focused on developments in strategic policing issues, police finance issues and wider accounting issues with implications for the police.
We looked at the 2016/17 Code of Practice on Local Authority Accounting in the United Kingdom and the consultation for 2017/18. In preparation for the deadline for early closedown for accounts, we also considered some key tips in closing your accounts earlier.
In relation to wider finance issues, we considered the sharing of assets with the fire service and potential issues, and summarised feedback of our analysis of police and crime commissioners’ commissioning strategies and social value strategies.
