The consequences of the Carillion collapse have been felt by more than 20,000 staff employed by the company, a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that were left without payment, and many public bodies who had vital contracts (208 government bodies had 420 contracts worth over £5.7bn).
The collapse should act as a warning for organisations to review their working arrangements with third party contractors and ensure that they have suitable procedures in place to alert them to financial difficulty sooner, and also have a plan of response to maintain delivery of essential public services and protect public bodies having to pay large compensation payments and from other financial losses.
The Carillion – Key Procurement, Legal and Financial Lessons for Public Bodies event was held on 4 October in Leeds and the 9 October in London. The presentation slides from these workshops are available to download below.
