About this event

The Finance Skills: Developing a Business Case e-learning explores the steps involved in a business case, including formulating objectives, measurement of costs and benefits, and other arrangements such as financial impact and post-implementation review. It offers a solid basis to advance onto the Better Business Cases Foundation course.

Learning outcomes

On completing the e-learning, you will understand:

  • the aims and objectives of developing a business case and the situations in which it can be used,
  • the basic techniques of developing a business case,
  • how to review the viability of various options using financial and non-financial data.

Who is it aimed at?

The e-learning is designed primarily for those who have no formal qualifications in finance or accountancy but who, as part of their job roles, need to understand and prepare business cases in accordance with generally accepted best practice. It is ideal for those who manage a budget or cost centre as part of a non-finance role in the public sector.

How is it delivered?

The e-learning is delivered via CIPFA's online learning environment. Detailed joining instructions will be sent to you.

How long will it take to complete?

The e-learning will take around four hours to complete. If you are studying online, you will have access to all of the learning materials for three months.

Assessment

There is no assessment for this e-learning if you are completing it on its own and not as part of the full Diploma in Finance Skills for Public Sector Managers.

This e-learning carries four CPD hours

All CIPFA training counts towards your continuing professional development (CPD). If you are a CIPFA Chartered Member, you are required to undertake a minimum of 20 hours of relevant CPD activity each year as part of maintaining your professional competence and to develop skills and knowledge.
