CIPFA has conducted surveys of the audit committees of local authorities and police. This briefing contains key findings from the surveys on police audit committees.
The aim of the survey was to obtain the views of the chief financial officer for the PCC and the chair of the police audit committee on the work of the committee, how effectively it was working and the support provided to the audit committee members. There were also questions about the support provided to internal audit and how well internal audit supports the committee.
The briefing includes results from the survey and a commentary on the findings. It also makes recommendations to help police audit committees work more effectively, providing advice and support to the PCC and chief constable.
