Hot Topics in Police and Fire Finance

07-10-2021

A webinar over two mornings (6 and 7 October) on the latest hot topics in finance and accounting for police forces, OPCCs and fire and rescue authorities and services.

On 6 October, we focused specifically on finance and technical accounting developments. Following our usual environmental update on finance and policy issues, we looked at changes to the 2021/22 Code of Practice for Local Authority Accounting in the UK, IFRS 16 and the consultation on the 2022/23 Code. We considered the anticipated changes to the Prudential framework and Prudential Code, the key drivers for the changes and timelines for implementation.

On 7 October, we focused on governance, audit and financial management developments, including the 2020/21 local audits, the MHCLG consultation on local audit, the proposed update to CIPFA's guidance on audit committees, and implementation of CIPFA's financial management code.

Our guest speaker was Andrew Kendrick, Audit Manager, Local Audit Code and Guidance Team, National Audit Office, who shared the latest on the proposed audit arrangements from the NAO perspective and the position regarding this year's audit process, including the value for money commentaries.
