The CIPFA Procurement & Commissioning Network held a special one-day workshop to help the practitioners tackle procurement fraud, which is conservatively estimated at £2.3 billion annually in the public sector, and is on the rise. Research suggests that during a period of economic downturn, the amount of fraudulent activity increases and the procurement function is one area in which fraud can occur.
These workshops gave support to help attendees to:
- identify different areas of the procurement cycle that may be exposed to the risk of collusion or manipulation
- understand ‘red flags’ and symptoms of procurement fraud
- identify and detect procurement fraud and more importantly how to respond once it is identified.
