The new regulatory environment is now firmly in place and authorities will have prepared capital strategies and set out investment strategies for the the year ahead. The range of 'alternative' investments is ever increasing, and the challenges of the local and global economy plus climate change require a new set of skills and experience.
Governance within the public sector has always been a source of strength but this should not be taken for granted, with the results of austerity reducing capacity at a time when the world has never been more complicated. It is vital that we take the appropriate steps and due diligence to demonstrate assurance to senior staff and members as well as the taxpayer.
These workshops covered the latest economic forecasts and regulatory updates as well as looking at investment opportunities that can offer more yield while limiting risk and also consider how to assess low carbon products to deliver wider policy objectives. As always, these events were excellent educational and networking opportunities.
