The housing sector plays an essential part in the fabric of society and is a topic for national debate. This year, legislative changes have introduced new policies that have made housing professionals question much of their previous long term plans.
CIPFA's Housing Conference on 9 June 2016 in London explores some of these changes and the implications for the sector. It celebrates those who have come out fighting for the sector, and asks what housing professionals must do to ensure future investment and sustainability.
Keynote speaker Lord Kerslake, a strong advocate for the need for good quality and affordable rented social housing for those on low incomes, will consider the future of social housing. He will explore what options there are for housing professionals to ensure future investment and sustainability. The message of the day is that mixed tenure promotes stronger communities and the conference looks at how the sector can provide more homes for those in need.
Our session on social value looks at the link between housing and health and how influential the provision of affordable housing and good quality homes is in improving tenants’ life chances. We offer individual perspectives on housing policy changes including those contained in the Housing and Planning Bill from both a local authority and a housing association perspective and how this is impacting on future financial planning.
We then move onto an exploration of how the Housing and Planning Bill’s sale of high value assets initiative could be implemented and consider its strategic and financial implications.
Dr Louise Dunne will then describe the ways in which a diagnostic approach to performance information can help housing providers to make better strategic decisions and identify service improvements now and into the future.
The day also allows for a discussion facilitated by Louise around the main issues covered during the day along with a consideration of the insights drawn from the latest strategic benchmarking exercise.
This is a crucial event for social housing professionals responsible for strategy, policy development, finance and resourcing.
