Council tax rebate guidance 2022/23

posted on 23 February 2022, updated on 23 February 2022

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities have published two documents related to the forthcoming council tax rebate. The billing authorities guidance is issued by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and intended support billing authorities in England in administering the rebate and associated discretionary fund for households, announced on 3 February as part of a package of support for rising energy costs.

This guidance applies to England only. The devolved administrations will receive around £565 million corresponding funding through the Barnett formula, which will enable them to provide similar support.

An accompanying press release provides information to households across England urging them to set up direct debits with their local council to receive a council tax rebate that will help them manage their costs of living.
