Obesity and overweight conditions could cost the economy between £10bn and £12bn by 2030 and tackling obesity has cost councils more than £0.5bn since taking over public health from the NHS three years ago, according to the Local Government Association (LGA). The LGA has called for tough new measures by the government to reverse this trend in its long-awaited childhood obesity strategy.
