Council tax rises on the way across England

Nearly all local authorities are planning to increase council tax and service charges in the light of concerns about financial sustainability.

According to the survey, carried out by the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) and The Municipal Journal, council tax will increase in 95% of authorities, with charges for services such as parking, burials and planning also due to increase.

The research also indicates that the biggest pressure on councils is children's services, followed by adult social care and housing and homelessness.
